Marathon and On
POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS. You might see these beauts, these blue police barricades punctuating the streets where you live because, um hmm, it's that time again for the New York City Marathon. After you wind back yer clocks back an hour on Saturday and purchased your iphone or Ipad NYC marathon app, Sunday will be witness to some 45,000 runners from all over the globe, ahh yes, running 26 miles through the five boroughs. In my neighborhood in Brooklyn, the sidewalks crowd with clapping people cheers and bands playing and volunteers handing out cups of water to the runners.
I don't like crowds. I enjoy the marathon. The glorius masochism of long distance running makes me chuckle. This is no way a swipe at someone who can run 26.2 miles appearing as if they're dashing across the street for a six pack, I just stand back, still and ingest enough coffee to talk like Steve Buscemi; and I will probably succumb to the dumb, viewing pleasure of post-marathon street litter; thousands of those crushed, tiny green cups.
