Top Restaurants in Midtown West / Theater District

New York is a dream combination of stellar Broadway shows, incredible attractions and world-class entertainment. All of those wonderful events bring millions of hungry eaters to New York's Theater District, located between 40th Street and 54th Street, and from Sixth Avenue to Eighth Avenue, including Times Square. The nearby neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen and the rest of Midtown West both have fabulous restaurants that are up to the challenge of feeding the hungry visitors and locals of New York City

Hell's Kitchen is Heaven For Food

Hell's Kitchen describes the west-side neighborhood located just a block away from Broadway. The heart of Hell's Kitchen is located on West 46th Street and 9th Avenue. It could take a year to eat at every good restaurant in this neighborhood.  Here are just a few:

Mario’s Trattoria

Mario’s Trattoria gives theatergoers light and easy fare for a pre-show snack. It serves classic pizza that comes piping-hot out of a large, brick pizza oven. It’s like grabbing a snack pizza off a small side street in Rome. A full menu is available, but stick with the pizza for the most consistent results.

Becco

Becco, founded by renowned TV chef Lidia Bastianich and her son, Joe, serves antipasti, pasta and vino, vino vino! The modern Italian menu at Becco includes everything from pasta to veal dishes and is a great value for excellent Italian noshing.

44 and X

Locals love 44 and X, an airy, American-style eatery that is perfect for an early pre-show dinner. Mac-and-cheese and buttermilk fried chicken and chive waffles are on the menu along with fresh fish, pork and beef dishes. Bring an appetite.

Pam Real Thai

Pam Real Thai is a small, busy place that serves up wonderfully light Thai food in a cash-only setting. Each dish is well-prepared with much care going into the amount of flavor and spice blended into the recipes.

Midtown West, Where Top Food is Art

Midtown West has some real restaurant gems. These places are close to the Theater District but not exactly in the heart of the hoopla.

Modern / The Bar Room

This restaurant at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) dishes up food as art in a manner that would make Picasso envious. The French-American cuisine is served in one of the most beautiful restaurants in New York City. The adjoining Bar Room is the real find; casual dining, hip locals and service that will get you out in time for your show. The Bar Room is wonderful for a snack and nightcap after, too.

db Bistro Moderne

Snuggled next to the Sofitel Hotel, db is one of world-class chef Daniel Boulud’s restaurants. Here you will find ultra-fresh ingredients and a sirloin burger filled with braised short ribs, foie gras and black truffle that is the best you have ever eaten. As a bonus, db’s is an easy walk to, or from, many of the theaters on Broadway. It also offers a special after-theater champagne and dessert pairing.

Bryant Park Grill

Bryant Park is a wonderful patch of green to contrast with New York’s grey buildings. The Bryant Park Grill is excellent for people-watching. Dine on American-Nouveau cuisine offering a verity of fish, meats and pastas.
