Top Restaurants in SoHo / NoLita

The SoHo neighborhood is found in the Lower Manhattan area of New York City. Its name comes from the fact that it is South of Houston Street (pronounced "How-Stun," and not like the city in Texas), hence SoHo. NoLita is found to the east of SoHo and is named as such as it is North of Little Italy. This area was once part of Little Italy but has since become less tied to Italian-American culture. Both areas have many boutiques, restaurants and bars.

Here are some of the best restaurants in SoHo / NoLita

Kittichai

Kittichai offers excellent Thai food in SoHo. The restaurant is found within the 60 Thompson Hotel located at 60 Thompson Street. Enjoy shrimp, salmon, beef, pork and squid cooked in a spiced broth. Main dishes are typically priced between $20-$30.

Balthazar

Balthazar is restaurateur Keith McNally's New York City version of a Paris brasserie. Crowds gather for breakfast and lunch, as well as dinner. Among the must-have dinner dishes: Short Ribs, Shepherd's Pie made with duck and Grilled Dorade ringed by roasted eggplant and peppers. For those that are visiting New York City for the first time, this is a restaurant that is worth the wait. Reservations are recommended for dinner and lunch.

This new seafood restaurant off the lobby of the Mondrian Soho hotel comes from chef Sam Talbot. It has two dining rooms - the lounge-y main dining room and the greenhouse-like garden room, both of which are available for reservations. The seafood-centric menu includes delights like Fat-Fried Oysters with sweet chow-chow relish and shreds of crackly Black Forest ham), and Shrimp and Heirloom Blue-Corn Grits.
