Bend Your Ear This Way
Bend your ear this way: Luna has reissued their last three albums and... this week's shows in short
I don't yearn for the past as much as I do for just a pop song that keeps my company at night. The ethereally poppy 1990's band Luna has reissued their final three albums packaged with new bonus tracks, unreleased B-sides and covers. A windfall? Yes. And why not? It's about time some commercial attention is finely being paid to a band (whose original members played in The Feelies and The Chills) who released seven albums of some true dusky, velvet, hazy, sexy influence; the friend that isn't really your friend, but who is sharing the same room, drinks, various other indulgences and attitude. I mean, why not? Dean Wareham, lead singer and songwriter of Luna, was formerly the star, gas, and dust of Galaxie 500, a New York City psychedelic band (read: Spacemen 3, Velvet Underground).
And here are the listening-worthy shows happening this week:
11/2: Nite Jewel is playing Mercury Lounge. Now there's been a whole lotta convo about this L.A. castaway, Ramona Gonzalez, and her delicate, minimal electronic music.
also 11/2: Feist is back in town. Her latest and fourth album is Metals. Metals is an insular album, a carefully orchestrated sadness, a bummer with potential.
11/3: Bob Mould will be reading his autobiography, See A Little Light The Trail of Rage and Melody, and playing music at the Bell House.
11/4: Sounds, the lovely Swedes, the quintet with a heart of glass for New Wave music.
also 11/4: Enrique Iglesias, son of Julio, and seriously popular. The Euphoria Tour.
11/5: Pixies. Yes, they are still touring and YES we la la la love them.
La la later. (I couldn't resist.)
