  • SAT JAN 7. 10am-12pm. Free event: MULCHFEST 2012. Bring your holiday tree to a designated city park to be recycled into mulch that will nourish plantings across the city.   • FIRST SATURDAY AT THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM - OUT AND PROUD. Brooklyn Museum opens its doors to the neighborhood for free events, exhibits and activities that culminate in an evening dance party.   • If you are fortunate enough to subscribe (I do, I do) to the Sebadoh, Sentridoh, The Folk Implosion, The New Folk Implosion, Deep Wound and of course Dinosaur Jr bassist, Mr. lo-fi Lou Barlow email newsletter then you are in for a treat. L.B. releases from his private stash some real rarities (unreleased songs, demos etc.). You can sign up here for Barlow's e-mail newsletter; Right now Earbenders you can hear the pre-Dino Jr band with J. Mascis Deep Wound rehearsal tape in addition to free downloads of Barlow's demo for "Your Weather," off the 2009 Dinosaur Jr album Farm as some previously unreleased solo recordings. Djr and Sebadoh plan to record new material in 2012.
  • Yes, Grinderman have broken up. But they have a new album dropping on Anti-, a collection of collabs, remixes, and reinterpretations based on their second record appropriately titled, Grinderman 2.
  • Guided By Voices (the classic 90s swillers and grillers) released their first new album together sinced they bowed out seven years ago called Let's Go Eat the Factory. GBV have already recorded a follow-up album, to be released in May, and are currently recording a third new album, supposedly called Bears for Lunch which sounds like Robert Pollard.
