Earbender: Solitude
Folks! Darlings! Pioneers! I strayed. I've strayed to the Sonoran Desert, land of the five Cs: copper, citrus, cattle, climate and cotton which the desert people have replaced with second-rate casinos and the kind of cacti your Master of Fine Arts students will grow into mescaline.
But wait, I'm being too cruel. Howie Gelb lives here. Calexico. Neko Case as well lives here. Linda Ronstadt lives here too; she even has a bus station named after her. Maybe the desert ain't so bad after all, pardner.
I think Andy Warhol filmed his westerns in this desert. Nice!
Some travel observations written in a Klostermanian list: a) The state of technology has made us unintentional eavesdroppers b) How enamored I am with travel-size items c) Everyone is doing a "solitary" thing, but it's the same "solitary" thing.
Solitude is just a rehearsal for some bad reflection. I am crowding my solitude with some beautiful people who are laughing at these very words as I type them. But for you New Yorkers there are some cool shows coming your way:
11/13 Foo Fighters, Social Distortion, The Joy Formidable
11/14 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
11/15 Youth Lagoon
11/16 The Kooks, The Postelles
11/17 Los Campesinos!, Dinosaur Feathers
11/18 Thee Oh Sees, Total Contral, Paul Cary and the Small Scaries
In the upcoming issues of Earbender: a review of Atlas Sound's new album Paralax, and a sweet interview with Steven Reker from People Get Ready. Additionally, I wanted to remind that the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival is happening as you read this installment. For the B.E.M.F. get to North 6th street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for over 40 electronic artists, a curated food truck lot, street art and installations and more. Ticket pick-ups at the Food Truck Lot at 61 North 6th street.
Until...
