Keep Your Ears Open for These Artists in 2012!

Although 2011 was an incredible year in music, I cannot help but get excited in my predictions for these breakthrough artists in the new year. Several of these artists already had some traction towards the end of last year, but are guaranteed to explode these coming months. An obvious prediction of a star in the making is Lana Del Rey. If you're already sick of hearing about her, you better get over it, she's only going to get more and more recognition. The songstress recently signed to Next Model Management and has her album Born to Die scheduled to be released January 30 in the UK and January 31 in the U.S. We've shared a few of her singles here at Newyork.com, and predict this is going to be the year of Lana. Check out my favorite single of hers thus far, "Off to the Races".

Another lovely lady that you are certainly going to hear more of is Azealia Banks. Her debut single "212" was a big underground hit last year, and she's not stopping there! She recently rustled some feathers on a twitter rant about Nicki Minaj and Kreaysawhn, released a new track "Licorice", partnered with Scissor Sisters on the song "Shady Love", and shows no signs of stopping. She was also just announced to make an appearance at Coachella, too. Watch out for this rebel!

As if he isn't already a huge deal, The Weeknd is releasing a trilogy of the three mixtapes that were released last year; all of which were awesome. I'm sure a lot of pregnancies can be put to blame for his baby-makin' music. His most recent album that featured the cover of Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana" is already one of the most talked about albums. I can't wait to see what's next.

Some other artists to keep a look out for this year blowing up the scene? A$AP Rocky, who was recently in the studio with ARAABmuzik and also confirmed for Coachella 2012. The Alabama white rapper, Yelawolf, has a promising year ahead of him too, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more coverage either. Youth Lagoon is indie, but I feel like they might have a "Young the Giant" kind of year, where they will become more popular out of nowhere. Gotye, whose single "Somebody That I Used to Know" was featured on several TV shows & on the radio definitely deserves the attention, so I foresee more for him this year, too.

Who do you think is going to have an epic 2012?
