Get a Free (Healthy & Korean) Lunch
Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?! Not us! If you're new to the city, I want to let you in on a secret -- finding free meals or gratis fitness classes are common practice here. If you've spent enough time in New York, you've likely already discovered this to be true. Being part of the second group, I must say, I love the opportunity to try new things for little or no cash. However, it can be overload, and sometimes I have a tough time sifting through all of the freebies to determine the ones worth taking advantage of -- namely, free food made with the most good-for-us ingredients and the fitness events that offer the most burn for the effort. So when I came across this giveaway, I was understandably intrigued.
Weekdays through the end of November, the Korean Food Foundation is giving away 1,600 lunches to New Yorkers through its online sweepstakes. That's a lot of lunch.
Besides the obvious incentive of winning a free lunch for yourself and up to 19 coworkers, each entry to the month-long giveaway garners a $1 donation to humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger's Restaurants Against Hunger campaign. Sweet deal, and it's in keeping with the do-good spirit of the holiday season.
The New York Korean restaurants offering up their grub for grabs include Mono + Mono, B-Bap Rice Bar, Do Hwa, Don's Bogam, Kang Suh, Kori, Kunjip, Miss Korea BBQ and Franchia. Besides enjoying the chance to win anything at all, of all New York's amazing cuisine, Korean food is not only tasty, but a healthier option -- especially when it comes to the many diverse seafood options, and main and side dishes that boast all sorts of veggies (from fresh to fermented) including cabbage, bean sprouts and spinach. Korean cooking also relies on generous amounts of garlic, ginger and spices, giving it a unique flavor as well as healthy twist.
What's your favorite Korean dish, and/or restaurant in New York?
