Kickboxing at a Lower East Side Theater
After a few months off (hey, everyone needs a vacation!) KiwiSweat is back and better than ever. The last pop-up session that they held was in Brooklyn back in November, right around Thanksgiving. Sadly, I overlooked the sign up window and missed out on snagging a session at this location, as well as the cycling sessions held in my work 'hood (Chelsea Market). Now that KiwiSweat is back, I was super excited to hear that the 2012 kick off event would involve, well, doing lots of kicking.
The kickboxing session later this month will be held on January 21 at 10am. And not to worry -- KiwiSweat is already saying that this won't be like any normal kickboxing class. Hosting the cardio session will be instructor Reign Hudson. Reign, whose self-proclaimed nickname is "Wild Child," has taught African Dance, Kickboxing and Spin at gyms including Crunch and Equinox. While I've never had Reign as an instructor, she's known for her hardcore but fun class that feels like a house party.
Another twist for this one-off kickboxing class? It will take place on the live set of "The History of The World" at The Living Theater, a black box theater on the Lower East Side. The Living Theater: It was founded in 1947 as an "imaginative alternative to the commercial theater" and has staged nearly a hundred productions performed in eight languages in 28 countries on five continents.
Go to KiwiSweat to sign up for this kickboxing session right now -- it's just $20! The Living Theater is located at 21 Clinton Street between Houston and Stanton. If you miss out on this one, don't fret. Stalk KiwiSweat's website to learn when and where the next pop up class will take place. They hold sessions at new locations at least once per month.
