Fabulous Hotel Fitness Centers

To be honest, the first time I visited the nearest branch of my gym (New York Sports Club), it was a bit confusing to find. Why? Well, besides being new to the neighborhood, I didn't anticipate that my new fitness hub would be on the fifteenth floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel off of Times Square. While it's not the largest of the New York Sports Club gyms, the facility is spotless, the machines are in good shape, and it has a pool. This got me thinking about those staying in the hotel on business or vacation -- what a nice workout facility to have access to during a trip to New York!

Of course, it's nothing compared with some of the incredible hotel fitness centers in the city. My wish list of new gyms to explore would include the W New York Downtown, with a 1,450-square-foot gym with boxing stations and yoga equipment, plus stationary bikes and elliptical machines. This new financial district hotel can also arrange special workouts, including a sunset yoga session overlooking the Hudson River. Oh, and let's not forget the spa at the Mandarin Oriental with a 14,500 square foot space with a fitness center and 75-foot naturally lit lap pool. Others include the Peninsula Hotel, the Affinia Dumont hotel in Midtown East has a full-time fitness concierge and Oasis Day Spa and the pool and fitness center at the Millenium Hilton.

Now, back to reality. I know that personally, whenever I travel, having a pool, and ideally fitness classes early in the morning, are two things I appreciate the most in a hotel. Whether I'm on the road for work or pleasure, I generally like to try something new, too.

What about you? What are your requirements for the exercise rooms in the hotels that you stay at?
