Bars and Clubs on the Lower East Side

No matter where you are on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City, you won't go far without passing a bar or nightclub. The music genres vary from club to club, and it will be no problem finding one to match your taste in New York nightlife.

Here are some of the most fun bars and clubs on the Lower East Side:

People Kitchen and Lounge

This bar is a favorite spot that is low-key and not too crowded. A variety of appetizers are offered to accompany your favorite liquid drink.

Peri Wine Bar

You will find a quiet corner and a generous glass of wine at Peri Wine Bar (181 Essex St.) along with a decent selection of beers, coffees or teas. There are plenty of fabulous wine bars to choose from on the Lower East Side of New York, but Peri's offers brunch and happy hour.

Rockwood Music Hall

Live music will get your blood pumping at Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen St.). The spot for amateur bands to strut their stuff, Rockwood often hosts newcomers to the stage. No cover charge and no dress-code policy, make this a popular spot with the younger crowd and musicians looking to break into music.

Mercury Lounge

Mercury Lounge (217 E. Houston St. ) is small, but its atmosphere is big. A staple here, the wood-beamed architecture is original, along with the tombstone embedded at one end of the bar.

Motor City

Put on the black leather and get ready for some loud music at Motor City (127 Ludlow). This is a favorite bar stop among locals and tourists.

Painkiller

Painkiller (49 Essex St.) is a Tiki bar where you will find one of the strongest concoctions in the city: the Zombie. Drink it slow: you are only allowed one.

Arlene's Grocery

Arlene's Grocery (95 Stanton St.) offers the best of live music, comedy and karaoke. Playing the top-40 hits overhead, the spot is a long-time neighborhood favorite.

Max Fish

Max Fish (176 Ludlow St ) caters to an eclectic scene. You will find many locals and tourists here enjoying this legendary spot. The jukebox plays nonstop, and patrons enjoy pool tables and pinball machines.
