Christina Ricci and Bebe Neuwirth to Star in Midsummer off-Broadway
The off-Broadway production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream is certainly shaping up to be a star-studded affair. It was recently announced that two-time Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth will be playing the role of Titania and Christina Ricci will play the role of Hermia.
The production will be staged at the Classic Stage Company March 28- May 6, 2012. It will be directed by Tony Speciale and will be the final production in the company's 2011-2012 season. Other productions this year include The Cherry Orchard, starring Dianne Wiest, and Galileo, starring F. Murray Abraham, which will begin performances February 1. Additional casting for Midsummer is expected to be announced shortly. Tickets will go on sale February 6.
Bebe Neuwirth's Broadway credits include the original production of A Chorus Line, Little Me, Sweet Charity (for which she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical), Damn Yankees, Chicago (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Actress in a Musical), and The Addams Family. She is also well-known for playing the role of Dr. Lilith Sternin on Cheers and Frasier - a role which earned her three Emmy Awards.
Christina Ricci made her Broadway debut last year in in Donald Margulies' Tony-nominated play Time Stands Still. In that play, she starred opposite Laura Linney, Brian d'Arcy James and Eric Bogosian. She is best known for her film work, however, including her roles in Mermaids (opposite Cher and Wynona Rider), The Addams Family, The Ice Storm, The Opposite of Sex, Buffalo 66, Monster, Black Snake Moan, Sleepy Hollow and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Next year, she is set to co-star in Bel Ami opposite Robert Pattinson, Kristin Scott Thomas and Uma Thurman. Ricci also currently stars in the 1960s-set ABC drama Pan Am.
