Knicks Fail to Stop Skid in Loss to Suns
It seems as if every night, a different Knicks player decides to have a bad night. And because the team is still not clicking offensively, the one poor performance is enough to derail the team's chances to win.
Hosting the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, a team that had lost five straight games, it was Carmelo Anthony's turn to have a bad night. After returning from an ankle injury Monday and scoring 33 points, Anthony finished with just 12 points and 11 rebounds. On Monday night, he shot just 9 of 27 from the field. Against the Suns, he was just 5 of 22 and 2 of 13 from three-point range.
So since Anthony's return from his ankle injury, he is just 14 of 49 from the field. Something must still be bothering him, and it's hurting the Knicks offensively.
The Knicks made just two field goals in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, but cut the Phoenix lead to 82-20 when Iman Shumpert hit a three pointer. Shumpert finished with 20 points in the game. But Shannon Brown answered with a three that had to be reviewed, and Steve Nash made six free throws in the last 16 seconds to give the Suns a 91-88 victory.
Nash had an outstanding game, finishing with 26 points and 11 assists in the win.
Former Suns forward Amar'e Stoudamire scored 23 for the Knicks and Landry Fields added 17, but it was not enough to overcome the lack of production from Anthony.
This was the sixth straight game in which the Knicks failed to reach 100 points, which is their second-longest streak under head coach Mike D'Antoni, according to STATS, LLC.
With their fourth consecutive loss, coming on the heels of four straight wins, the Knicks are now just 6-8 on the season, and 3-4 at home. They'll have an off day on Thursday before closing out their home stand with back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against Milwaukee and Denver. While certainly not must-win games at this stage of the season, a win or two would go a long way toward restoring the team's waning confidence.
