What to Watch This Weekend: 11/11/11
As we reach the midway point in the NFL season and as college football teams start to gear up toward bowl season, Saturdays and Sundays begin to take on even more significance. Combine that with early season hockey and the beginning of college basketball season and we are in one of the best sports times of the year.
If only there were Knicks games on right now...
Here's what to watch this weekend:
Friday
South Florida @ Syracuse, 8 PM, ESPN2
Syracuse needs a win after losing two straight, and is hoping not to become an afterthought once the basketball season starts. The Orange have been a game short of bowl eligibility for several weeks now.

Washington @ New Jersey Devils, 7 PM MSG+
The Devils continue to try to find some consistency as they travel to face one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference in Washington.

Carolina @ New York Rangers, 7 PM, MSG
The red-hot Rangers, 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, face a Carolina team that has struggled in the early part of the young season.

Saturday
Nebraska @ Penn State, 12 PM, ESPN
Watch this game if only to see how Penn State reacts to all of the turmoil this week. It will be interesting to see whether the team is able to focus on the task at hand after Joe Paterno was fired. Sports can work in funny ways, so Penn State may come out with a sense of purpose, or fall under the weight of the circumstances.
Rutgers @ Army, 3:30 PM, CBS College Sports
It's never easy to face service academies, and Army's triple-option offense is no different. Rutgers will have its hands full in stopping Army's run, but the Scarlet Knights should be able to put up points.
Fordham @ Syracuse (basketball), 4 PM, SNY
Ah, college basketball is back. Syracuse fans will get their first real look at freshman forward Rakeem Christmas, who figures to be an outstanding first-year player for the #5-ranked Orange.

Oregon @ Stanford, 8 PM, ABC
Stanford can put itself in the driver's seat for a chance to play in the national title game, but they have to get by Oregon, who roughed the Cardinal up last season. Andrew Luck will need to score enough points to match the Ducks' offense.
Sunday
Giants @ 49ers, 4:15 PM, FOX, Patriots @ Jets, 8:20 PM, NBC
There are plenty of reasons to watch both of these games. Stay tuned for full previews of both matchups this weekend.

Islanders @ Vancouver, 9 PM, MSG+
The Islanders started the season out strong, but things have not gone so well lately. Stanley Cup runner-up Vancouver is still battling a second-place hangover, and will look to right the ship against John Tavares and company.
