The bad news: Neil Patrick Harris won’t be extending his Tony-winning lead role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch past his original August 17 end date.

The good news: Andrew Rannells will step into the gold platforms on August 20 for an eight-week run.

Rannells, a Tony nominee for his performance in the original cast of The Book of Mormon,¬†most recently starred in The New Normal on NBC and HBO’s Girls. This isn’t the first time he has brought Hedwig to the stage: he starred in an (unrelated) production in Austin, Texas back in 2001.

The show was originally set to close on August 17 as well, but the run is now open ended. There is no word yet on who will replace Rannells once he ends his stint.

Hedwig, the tale of a transgendered wanna-be rock star from East Berlin, won four Tonys this year, including Best Musical Revival, Best Actor in a Musical for Harris and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Lena Hall.
