Broadway Gets Tropical with Playbill Travel

If you love Broadway but wish the performances came with ocean views and frozen drinks topped with umbrellas, then you might want to check out the new Playbill Travel. Playbill will host Broadway by the Sea, a seven-night vacation from Dec. 8 to 15, 2014, at the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort and Golf Club in Puerto Rico as part of a new travel initiative.

Playbill Travel Providing entertainment will be a host of Broadway vets including Tony winner Tommy Tune (Grand Hotel, Nine), Laura Benanti (Gypsy), Megan Hilty (Smash), Faith Prince (Guys and Dolls, Annie revival), Paulo Szot (South Pacific), Donna McKechnie (A Chorus Line), Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens) and more to be announced. Actor-musician-radio personality Seth Rudetsky will serve as master of ceremonies, performer and music director.

Activities include exclusive performances by the stars as well as meet-and-greet sessions with the celebrity guests. There will also be typical resort activities, such as golf at the resort and the nearby Trump International, tennis, sailing, and nature tours. A Commercial Theatre Institute seminar on “How to Produce and Invest in a Broadway Show” will also be offered.

This is not Playbill first foray into travel. The company started a series of cruises called Broadway on the Seas that featured guest stars such as Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Marin Mazzie, Norm Lewis, Andrea Martin and many others.
