Fran Drescher and ‘Frozen’ Songwriters to Announce Drama Desk Nominees
Fran Drescher (The Nanny) and Oscar-winning songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will announce the nominees for the 59th annual Drama Desk Awards on April 25 at 54 Below.
Drescher is currently starring as Madame, the wicked stepmother, in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The Lopez and Anderson-Lopez (who are married) recently won the Oscar for Best Song for “Let It Go” from the Disney animated feature Frozen. With this win, Robert Lopez became the youngest person to EGOT for winning an Oscar, Grammy (for the original cast album of The Book of Mormon), Tony (for his contributions to Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon), and Emmy (for the series Wonder Pets). Anderson-Lopez has been nominated for a Drama Desk Award for the Off-Broadway musical In Transit.
Founded in 1949, the Drama Desk is an organization of New York-based theater critics, reporters, and editors. Unlike the Broadway-only Tonys, the Drama Desks honor Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway in all of its multiple categories.
