There is now more time to catch Audra McDonald‘s Tony winning performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill on Broadway. The show, previously slated to close on August 10, will now run until August 31.
McDonald picked up a record sixth Tony on Sunday for her starring role. The show, set in a fictitious Philadelphia club in 1959, is the recreation of one of Holiday’s last performances. McDonald channels the singer, telling tragic tales of abuse and racism while also weaving in some of Holiday’s classic songs such as “God Bless the Child,” “Strange Fruit” and “What a Little Moonlight Can Do.”
Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill is now playing at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Get tickets!
