Married stars Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman will be teaming up onstage as well as off when they appear in Annapurna, a new two-character play by Sharr White, for a limited Off-Broadway engagement, April 13 through June 1, 2014 at the Acorn Theatre.
The play, which will be making its New York debut, is the third production of the New Group’s 2013-14 season, following Beth Henley’s The Jacksonian and Thomas Bradshaw’s Intimacy. Mullally and Offerman also appeared in the play when it premiered at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles in April 2013. Bart DeLorenzo repeats his directing chores.
The story is set in a rundown trailer in the mountains of Colorado where Emma (Mullally) finds her former husband Ulyssess (Offerman), a broken-down cowboy-poet who’s hooked to an oxygen tank and working on a massive epic. The emotion-charged reunion recalls the best and worst of their union.
The couple are best-known for their TV roles, Mullally as the alcoholic and narcissistic Karen Walker on Will and Grace, for which she received two Emmy Awards, and Offerman as whiny Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. Mullally has previously appeared on Broadway in Grease, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Young Frankenstein, and has a recurring role as Offerman’s ex-wife on Parks. Offerman has also appeared in such films as Sin City, The Men Who Stared at Goats, and Kings of Summer.
White is currently represented on Broadway by The Snow Geese, presented by Manhattan Theatre Club at the Samuel Friedman Theatre. MTC also produced White’s The Other Place last season at the Friedman.
