Post-Theater Bar: Where to Drink After ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’

You’re going to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Belasco Theater and you need to know where to get a drink afterward? No problem! We’ve got just the right post-theater bar for Broadway’s gender-bending glam rock musical.

Lips, Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Lips, better known as the ‘Disneyland of Drag,’ makes for an apropos stop after seeing ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ on Broadway in NYC (Photo: Lips NYC, Inset: Joan Marcus)

The Show: Neil Patrick Harris plays a German rock singer who grapples with life after a botched sex-change operation. Lena Hall swaps genders to play Hedwig’s band mate Yitzhak. Both performances earned Tony nominations this year — one each for Harris and Hall — along with six other nods, including Best Revival of a Musical.

The Bar: Craving camp? Up for something over-the-top? Pop into Lips, the “Disneyland of Drag,” where platform heels, towering wigs and buxom, bustier-wearing performers bring down the house six nights a week. There’s no cover and no reservations required for the bar. And while all kinds are welcome here, there’s no better way to get in touch with your feminine side.

What to Drink: How about a Buttery Titty Twister ($10)? It’s a fierce shot of butterscotch schnapps, Bailey’s and Southern comfort. If you order a premium shot ($13), the lip-shaped glass is on the house. Specialty frozen drinks, such as the Blojito ($10)–a blend of rum, raspberry liqueur, triple sec, OJ, sour mix and 7-up–err on the sugary side.
