The Velocity of Autumn will open at the Booth Theater on April 21 for a limited engagement. The two-character play focuses on 79-year-old Alexandra (Parsons) who has barricaded herself in her Brooklyn brownstone with enough explosives to blow up the entire block. She threatens to detonate them unless her children stop in their efforts to make her move into a retirement home. Her estranged son Christopher (Spinella) whom she hasn’t seen in years, has been summoned by his siblings and crawls in through the window to negotiate a settlement. The play premiered at the Boise Contemporary Theatre in Idaho and later played the Beck Center for the Arts in Cleveland. Parsons and Spinella starred in the production at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2013.
