Three More Big Names Joining ‘After Midnight’ This Summer

This summer is going to be hot, as Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Natalie Cole step into the special guest star slot in After Midnight. The revue, which celebrates Duke Ellington’s tenure at the Cotton Club, is nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Patti Labelle will join the company from June 10-29, Gladys Knight from July 8-Aug. 3, and Natalie Cole, making her Broadway debut, from Aug. 5-31. Combined, this trio boasts 22  platinum and gold records, 18 Grammy Awards and almost 300 million albums sold worldwide. In addition to concerts, LaBelle’s Broadway credits include Your Arms Too Short to Box with God and Fela! Knight has previously appeared on Broadway in Smokey Joe’s Café.

Since the show opened last fall, the special guest role has been taken by Fantasia Borrino, K.D. Lang, Toni Braxton, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Vanessa Williams, who is currently filling the role through May 11. Barrino will return to the show from May 13-June 8. Conceived by Jack Viertel, After Midnight is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Warren Carlyle. The cast includes Dule Hill, Adriane Lenox who is nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Karine Plantadit, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Julius “iGlide” Chisolm, Virgil “Lil’O” Gadson, and Jared Grimes.
