Multi-platinum recording artist — and Tony nominee — Vanessa Williams will join the roster of special guest stars in the Broadway revue After Midnight at the Brooks Atkinson Theater. Williams will appear in the guest star slot from April 1 to May 11.
After Midnight, which celebrates Duke Ellington’s tenure as bandleader at the legendary Cotton Club, opened on Nov. 3, 2013 with American Idol winner Fantasia as guest star. K.D. Lang is playing that role now through March 9 and she will followed by Toni Braxton and Kenny “Babyface”Edmonds from March 18-30. Additional guest stars will be announced.
Williams most recently appeared on Broadway in last season’s revival of The Trip to Bountiful for which she was nominated for a Best Featured Actress in a Play Tony Award. She and star Cicely Tyson will be repeating their roles in an upcoming Lifetime TV-movie adaptation of Horton Foote’s play. Her other Broadway credits include Into the Woods (Tony nomination), Kiss of the Spiderwoman (Theater World Award) and Sondheim on Sondheim. She’s been nominated for 11 Grammy Awards for such hits as “The Right Stuff” and “Colors of the Wind” from Disney’s Pocahontas, as well as three Emmy Awards for her performance on ABC’s hit comedy series Ugly Betty.
