When I first got here, it was culture shock. Just the pace of this place is so different. And I love it, but it’s also very essential for me to try to get out of the city every once in a while just to remind myself of a different kind of time continuum. New York is its own beast in all the best ways, but I think you appreciate it more too when you get away and then come back.
What do you love about New York?
1. It’s fun being out late in New York and going out after a show. I don’t do it all the time, because I just wouldn’t be able to do my job. But it’s fun to have those New York moments and be young and alive and go out. I was just at Becco recently. What’s not to like about it? It was packed the night I went, but it’s a fabulous place. It has great service, a great atmosphere and sensational food. You can indulge.
2. I would love to just have a day where I could just take myself to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and just go and sit in the galleries. That’s always been one of my favorite things to do. I love the architecture inside the Met. I find it fascinating — with the pyramids and full facades of some of the buildings. It’s a great escape.
3. There’s a fantastic restaurant in Astoria called Fatty’s Café. And they have great margaritas and mojitos. And there’s another place in Astoria called Mojave that has these spicy margaritas with jalapeño in it. They’re so good. It’s just like a little good burn.
