5 NYC Bars and Restaurants That Honor Your Inner Geek

It’s superhero week at NewYork.com — the perfect time to unleash our inner nerds. In honor of the occasion, we’ve united our powers to find you the five best places in NYC to get your geek on. Whether you’re looking to unlock the mysteries of science, travel back in time in a TARDIS, or refuel for a fight with Queen Velasca, we’ve found a place for you.

The Way Station
Fancy a spot of time travel? The aggressively steampunk-y Way Station in Prospect Heights goes all the way in its decor — it has a TARDIS (wikipedia.org/wiki/TARDIS) “time machine” installed inside. It’s to be revered, even if the only place (that we know of!) it can transport you to is the bathroom. Dr. Who-themed drinks and murals round out the fun. 683 Washington Ave., Brooklyn, 347-627-4949, waystationbk.blogspot.com

Action Burger
This Williamsburg burger joint caters to the superhero fan in all of us. There’s no getting away from comics here; menu items are all in theme, ranging from the Toragon (burger with three cheeses, spicy guac, grilled onions and bacon) to the Dark Energy Night (a burger-nacho mashup). And while you’re waiting, hop on their free arcade machines.  292 Graham Ave., Brooklyn, 718-599-4376, actionburger.com

Barcade

Barcade
For time travel of a different sort, head back to your childhood at Barcade; its huge collection of vintage arcade games each cost you a truly retro 25 cents per play. Up your superhero stamina with their equally impressive selection of microbrews. 388 Union Ave., Brooklyn, 718-302-6464, barcadebrooklyn.com

Secret Science Club at The Bell House
Proud geeks unite at The Bell House, where once a month, a “Secret Science Club” hosts brainiacs for unique lecture-parties. In the past, neuroscientists, geneticists and bio-robotic experts have appeared … with themed cocktails and dance parties that follow. Thinking and drinking — now that’s a balanced lifestyle. 149 7th St., Brooklyn, 718-643-6510, secretscienceclub.blogspot.com

Two Bits Arcade
It’s hard to argue with the genius combination of booze plus video games. At this Lower East Side spot, you’ve got both a strong wine list and craft beer, with 22 rotating games — and even a foosball table, if you’d rather prove your prowess in the “real world.” 153 Essex St., 212-477-8161, facebook.com/twobitsarcade
