Nowhere does the New Year quite like New York. All over town, you’ll find all-night parties with DJs, champagne toasts and specialty cocktails–and often a hefty cover charge. If you’re looking to spend this New Year’s Eve out on the town, but don’t want to book advance tickets or drop money on a cover before you’ve even bought your first drink, here are five spots to consider.
One of Williamsburg’s premiere cocktail bars, Huckleberry Bar will be throwing a party on December 31st — with Jonny Santos and DJ Rafik spinning the music, Champagne bottles sabred and bubbly for all — but with no cover charge. 588 Grand St., Brooklyn, 718-218-8555, huckleberrybar.com
This cocktail den and oyster house will take reservations for a seated dinner, but if you’re just looking to drink — which you can do very well at Maison Premiere — no reservations or minimum spend are necessary. And walk-ins are welcomed all night long. There’s even a Champagne bar (with Champagne cocktails) out on the heated patio. 298 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, 347-335-0446, maisonpremiere.com
While there’s a 20s-themed party at sister bar The Rum House up by Times Square, Tribeca cocktail destination Ward III is keeping things simpler for New Year’s Eve. No cover charge, just plenty of revelry and a champagne toast at midnight. 111 Reade St., 212-240-9194, ward3tribeca.com
With their “Boogaloo, Soul and Raw Funk” event, The Tippler will be a dancing destination, featuring the stylings of DJ Turmix and super-late closing hours — the party won’t stop until 8am. Best part? No cover charge, leaving you more cash to try out their excellent cocktails. 425 W. 15th St. (under Chelsea Market), 212-206-0000, thetippler.com
Die Koelner Bierhalle
Maybe you’re not looking for craft cocktails on New Year’s Eve. Maybe all you need is a generously poured beer and room enough for friends. If so, consider the cavernous Die Koelner Bierhalle in Park Slope, where they’ll have a DJ and a complimentary Champagne toast at midnight, but no cover and no pretense. 84 St. Marks Place, Brooklyn, 347-227-7238, thekbh.com
