Light the candles. Turn out the lights. And get ready to sing: it’s NewYork.com’s first birthday! That’s right, for an entire year, NewYork.com has been bringing readers the best of the Big Apple, from the most popular Broadway shows to the coziest hotel rooms to the most delicious dishes all around town.
Why not mark the occasion with a slice of birthday cake ($11) at the West Village gem, Commerce? Chef Harold Moore put the dish on the menu after receiving so many requests for a festive, birthday dessert. It’s a perfect slice of celebration: moist yellow cake, layered with chocolate butter cream and an outer icing festively adorned with rainbow sprinkles. Every piece comes with a candle, of course, making diners feel as if it’s their party, even if it isn’t. And don’t worry — in true NYC fashion, the staff does not sing upon presentation. They leave that option to the revelers themselves.
Opened 2008, Commerce celebrated its sixth birthday earlier this year. Its loyal neighborhood clientele will surely see that the restaurant marks many more. Wish the same for NewYork.com before you blow out the candle!
