It’s time for cool-weather vegetables on the East Coast, and it’s particularly peak season for Brussels sprouts, which New Yorkers can enjoy fresh from now through February. Little Prince in SoHo adds extra comfort to its sprouts ($7) by roasting them in duck fat until they are slightly charred and unctuously rich. It’s the kind of side dish you want to cozy up to a roaring fire with. How many vegetables can you say that about?
A small spot sporting a truly French heart, Little Prince opened in spring 2013 and serves up classic bistro fare from chef Paul Denamiel. Denamiel, who also helms Restaurant Row classic Le Rivage, gained renewed acclaim at Little Prince for his off-the-menu onion soup burger ($19), so popular it is now on regular rotation. There’s an attention-grabber on the dessert menu, too: Jacques Torres’s chocolate chip cookies with rum-infused milk ($9) — also a wonderfully comforting way to see in the new season.
