Sorbet at Colicchio and Sons

The most underrated of summer coolers

During New York City summers, everyone is either screaming for ice cream or going gonzo for gelati. But who is thinking of the sorbets? Tom Colicchio is, at his Meatpacking/ Chelsea restaurant, Colicchio and Sons. We love the way he thinks: strawberry is so one-note on its own. Why not liven it up with a little rose wine? And a melon sorbet is a little too straightforward. So why not cut it with some cucumber? Two scoops ($7) of these delicious coolers are available along with a sweet tea variety on the dessert menu until a seasonal chill sets in once more.

Colicchio and sons sorbet Best known as the Top Chef co-host, chef Colicchio has a long history in NYC’s fine dining scene, cutting his chops at Gramercy Tavern before opening Craft, Craftbar, Riverpark and ‘wichcraft restaurants. Colicchio has won five James Beard Foundation Awards. Even more important, he and his wife, filmmaker Lori Silverbush, are committed to fighting hunger in America, an oft-overlooked issue documented in Silverbush’s recent film “A Place at the Table.” Even cooler than his spectacular sorbet.
