Where to Eat in NYC After a Big Night Out

After a night out on the town, it’s all but guaranteed that you’ll need a bite to eat before heading home. But once the bars close, most of the city’s restaurants have, too. Thankfully, there are exceptions — some restaurants in New York City open until 4am or even later. Here are five late-night restaurants in New York City that we love.

Classic East Village hangout Veselka isn’t just a place to fill your borscht craving — it’s a 24-hour diner perfectly located to feed the bar-going masses. Soak up the night’s drinks with excellent burgers, pancakes, or their famous pierogi. 144 Second Ave., 212-228 9682,

This 24-hour Turkish kebab shop is a Lower East Side staple, and well-positioned for the bar-dense neighborhood; after hours, you’ll see late-night eaters scarfing down doner. But vegetarians don’t have to miss out — falafel and other meat-free options are equally suited for a late-night snack. 187 E. Houston St., 212-475-7700

A quick walk from the many bars of the West Village, Coppelia is a charming modern Cuban diner at any hour, but a godsend late at night. Refuel with ropa vieja or a plate of enchiladas, or go for the ultimate late-night binge: their “Frita Cubana” burger, with chicharron, roasted pork and cheddar right on top of the burger patty. 207 W. 14th Street, 212-858-5001,

Bowery Diner
Ideally located near the nightlife hotspots of the Bowery, NoLiTa, and the Lower East Side, Mathieu Palombino’s all-American diner has something for everyone — killer burgers, indulgent milkshakes and excellent egg dishes if you’d prefer an early breakfast to a late dinner. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, it’s open until 5am. 241 Bowery, 212-388-0052,

The Meatball Shop
Whether you’ve been at a concert in Williamsburg, a bar crawl on the Lower East Side, or a house party on the Upper East, the Meatball Shop’s five locations are all open late — until 2am weeknights, and 4am weekends — to ensure you don’t go home without a hearty meal. Multiple locations,
