About Wollman Rink
Ice skating in New York is a top outdoor activity, and one of the most scenic rinks in the city is found in the southeastern section of Central Park. And it's long on history as well. Wollman Rink has been the go-to place for stunning skyline views, romantic turns on the ice and plain old family fun since the rink first opened to the public in 1949.
Featured in a number of films – from the comedic (Home Alone II) to the romantic (Serendipity) – Wollman Rink offers the charm of being in one of New York City’s most familiar locales (does it get any more recognizable than Central Park?) while also feeling the comfort and intimacy of ice skating in a park setting with lights twinkling in the (near) distance. Whether you visit during the daytime hours or wait until the sun goes down, the experience will be one you’re not soon to forget. Even better, though, buying tickets in advance ensures guaranteed admission to the rink (plus a skate rental) even if a skating session is sold out to the general public.
Wollman Rink is open seasonally from late October until early April. Skating is available seven days a week, with limited hours Mondays and Tuesdays (10am to 2:30pm). On Wednesdays and Thursdays the rink is open 10am to 10pm. Save with us on weekend skating, when the rink is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 11pm and Sundays from 10am to 9pm.
Did you know?
Wollman Rink hosted a series of summer rock concerts, including the Schaefer Music Festival (1968-1977) and the Dr. Pepper Music Festival (1977-1980).
Besides Home Alone II and Serendipity, Wollman Rink was also featured in movies Love Story, Night at the Museum, Limitless, Stepmom and August Rush.
From novice skaters to those who can triple-axel among the best Olympic hopefuls, Wollman is big enough for everyone to enjoy their ice-skating experience. It’s especially perfect for families during daytime hours and couples in the evening, when romance takes over (helped along by the sparkle of the city’s skyline as seen from Central Park).
Good for kids?
Kids and ice-skating go together as well as any other sports or outdoor activity. There are skate rentals available in all sizes as well as occasional special events just for families and kids.
