A Christmas Story, The Musical! Tickets

  • About A Christmas Story, The Musical

It’s been 30 years since the film A Christmas Story debuted, and the holiday hijinks of the Depression-era Parker family have been part of American culture ever since. Driven by nine-year-old Ralphie Parker’s desperate wish to find a Red Ryder BB Gun in his stocking, the movie has become an annual event, joining It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street in the pantheon of Christmas classics. Now reimagined for the stage as a musical, the holiday hit will once again come to the stage in December.

A Christmas Story, The Musical dutifully preserves the film’s most unforgettable scenes. Mr. Parker’s fishnet leg lamp gets the song and dance treatment, and Ralphie’s famous tongue gets frozen to the flag pole in a hilarious number sure to please audiences.

Jake Lukas (Newsies) will star as Ralphie, while Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years, Lombardi) returns as the narrator. Also returning to the cast are John Bolton (Damn Yankees) and Tony nominee Erin Dilly (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang). The songs and lyrics were penned by much-buzzed-about writing duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Director John Rando helms the production, with orchestrations by Larry Blank, music direction and supervision by Ian Eisendrath, dance music arrangements by Glen Kelly, vocal arrangements by Justin Paul, and choreography by Warren Carlyle. Designer Walt Spangler conceived the sets, while Elizabeth Hope Clancy designed the costumes, Howell Binkley designed the lighting, Ken Travis designed the sound, and Tom Watson created the wigs.

Boys and girls aged five through 10 will have no trouble relating to Ralphie’s burning desire for the “it” holiday toy.
