  A Broadway phenomenon since opening at the Winter Garden Theatre in 2001, Mamma Mia! is the story of a wedding gone off the rails, set to chart-topping music by the Swedish pop supergroup ABBA. This musical comedy was made into a big-screen summer hit in 2008, starring Amanda Seyfried as the bride-to-be and Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep as her free-spirited mother.
  
  Mamma Mia! is set on a tiny Greek island that's buzzing with preparations for the upcoming marriage of local sweetheart Sophie, daughter of the proudly single Donna. The mother, we soon find out, used to be a bit of a wild child. Though Sophie appears to have it all -- a handsome fiancé, an adoring mom and the perfect spot for the world’s most picturesque wedding -- one thing is missing: a father to walk her down the aisle.
  
  Eager to learn the identity of the dad she’s never known (her mother isn’t quite sure who it is), Sophie reads Donna's old diary and secretly sends wedding invitations to the three men her mom wrote about the year Sophie was conceived. When the men arrive on the island – none of whom have seen Donna in 20 years – a comical and touching cascade of events ensues.
  
  Mamma Mia! was one of Broadway's first “jukebox musicals,” which set dancing-and-singing spectacles to popular music hits. This show features some of ABBA's biggest songs, including “Dancing Queen,” “Chiquitita,” “Lay All Your Love On Me,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “Thank You For the Music” and the title tune “Mamma Mia.”

Theatergoers looking for an escape or light-hearted comedy will find it here, and the show never takes itself too seriously. If you’re in the market for a musical with sing-along appeal, look no further – Mamma Mia! literally ends with singing and dancing in the aisles.
  
  Good for kids?
  Considering Mamma Mia! is about a woman who doesn’t know which of three lovers is the father of her child, the show is remarkably innocent. Sex talk is limited to innuendo, so much of the "adult" content should go over children's heads. Sharp kids might ask how a mother might not know the identity of the father of her child, but if you’re comfortable fielding that question, your child likely will be comfortable with the show. Bright colors, light plot points, flashy costumes and physical comedy also make Mamma Mia! easily digestible and visually engaging for younger viewers. Children under the age of four are not permitted in the theater.

  About The Winter Garden Theatre
  Best known as the former home of the long-running musical hit Cats, The Winter Garden Theatre is light, airy and spacious. The theater, which seats just over 1,500 people, is notably without a traditional balcony, as the space was designed to hold orchestra and mezzanine seating only. Leg room is plentiful, though very tall theatergoers will be most comfortable with an aisle seat. The Winter Garden serves beverages, wine and spirits, as well as snacks. Outside food and drink are not permitted.
