Connected to Broadway brings you inside a show like never before. Before the theater doors open to the public, there will be a 90-minute reception with cocktails and gourmet hors d'oeuvres. Then, you'll be escorted to your preferred location in either the orchestra or the front mezzanine. After the show, you're invited to take a seat in the first two rows of the orchestra for an intimate, up-close and personal, moderated talkback with select members of the cast.
The first event in the series is Kinky Boots on August 1, 2013 at the Al Hirschfeld Theater. Kinky Boots won six 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical as well as awards for Best Actor (Billy Porter), score (Cyndi Lauper), choreography (Jerry Mitchell), orchestrations, and sound design for a musical. It also won Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards for Best Musical.
Kinky Boots tells the heartwarming story of Charlie Price (Tony nominee Stark Sands), who has suddenly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Charlie is ready to give up his late father’s business when he meets an unlikely hero—Lola, a performer in need of a pair of stilettos—and gets an idea for a new niche product: high-heeled boots strong enough to be worn by male drag queens. Lola reluctantly agrees to sign on as designer. But will this unlikely duo be able to work together and turn out a fabulous new line of footwear in time for a huge fashion show in Milan?
Kinky Boots is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical. The show features a book by four-time Tony winner Harvery Fierstein and direction and Tony-winning choreography by Jerry Mitchell. The music was written by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, who made history by becoming the first solo woman to ever receive the Tony Award for best score.
