Top Restaurants in the Bronx

The Bronx has a rich and vibrant history that is as diverse as New York itself. From the ballpark hot dogs of Yankee Stadium, to the historic Arthur Avenue area -“ the other Little Italy” in New York - and all of its delicious dining options, to the wonderful seafood of City Island, there is something for locals and travelers alike in the Bronx, NY.

Here are a few of the top restaurants in the Bronx:

Mario's Restaurant

No list of Bronx restaurants would be complete without the Italian institution known as Mario’s. Mario’s has been an Arthur Avenue staple in the Bronx for nearly 100 years. In 2000, Mario's won a prestigious James Beard Award for its culinary prowess. The atmosphere at Mario's is relaxed and family-oriented, but suitable for intimate dining and even business engagements.

Red Flower Chinese

A local favorite, the Red Flower is tucked away on White Plains Road. The menu is reasonable, and the food is delicious, especially the fried rice and appetizers. The underground foodie show, “Foodies in the Hood,” recently gave Red Flower a glowing review, and if you want to know about the best food in a particular place, locals like the “'hood foodies” are definitely the ones to help you find it.

Caridad Restaurant

Though the Bronx may not be known for its Spanish food, it is known for quality. Caridad is a great example of this. Laid back and elegant, the Caridad is a wonderful place to take the family and enjoy some wonderful, authentic Spanish cuisine. The staff is helpful, and the menu prices are moderate.

Estrellita Poblana IV

The fare at La Estrellita Poblana is as authentic as you can possibly get this far away from Mexico. Their website is vibrant and colorfully speckled and gives a real feel for what is waiting for you at 45 Westchester. Though it has only been open since 1998, Estrellita Poblana has quickly become a neighborhood favorite. Adolfo Gonzalez puts care and old-fashioned hard work into his prized restaurant.

Artie's Steak & Seafood Restaurant

If a lean sirloin steak or delicious slab of beef is what you desire, there is no better place to go than Artie’s on City Island. The Island is known for its seafood and wealth of restaurants, and Artie’s stands out with the addition of steak to go with its lobster, scallops and crab. If you are out sightseeing, or visiting the island, informal attire is okay. The neon signage outside of Artie’s is reminiscent of the 1950s and not what you’d expect from a City Island restaurant. The glowing nod to yesteryear only adds to the appeal of this restaurant.
