The New York Super Bowl Logo Calls for Snow in 2014
The host committee for the first "New York" Super Bowl unveiled the logo for the upcoming game, which is scheduled to be played at MetLife Stadium near New York City in February of 2014.
In addition to the initials "NY" and NJ" for New York and New Jersey and the George Washington Bridge, the logo for the game incorporates a snowflake. That may be foreshadowing as Super Bowl XXXVIII (48) is the first to be played outdoors in a cold weather climate.
As reported by the AP on Yahoo!:
“I think that’s great,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday at the unveiling at the Museum of Modern Art in Midtown Manhattan. “A little snow would be great for us. But whatever comes our way, we’re going to be prepared for it. ...We’re coming and playing in the winter, and I think that would be great. Some of our most memorable games were played in unusual weather circumstances. Winter and cold are part of football, and snow is also.”
The New York metropolitan area's hosting of the 2014 Super Bowl, the NFL's title game, marks a radical departure for the league, which usually awards the game to warm weather sites in the southern or western part of the U.S. or northern cities with domed stadiums.
New York / New Jersey will also be the first East Coast location for the game.
Hotel rooms for the New York Super Bowl XXXVIII are sure to be scarce as the date draws closer. Some hotels are already taking reservations for rooms for the 2014 New York Super Bowl.
