About Affinia 50
Modestly sized and conveniently located, Affinia 50 was completely redesigned in 2013. Situated just east of the center of Midtown, this Affinia property (one of five in the city) is a stone's throw from must-see destinations like Rockefeller Plaza, Grand Central Station, and the Museum of Modern Art, not to mention Fifth Avenue's best shopping blocks and a crop of fabulous restaurants.
The real charm of staying at Affinia 50, however, is the deep sense of familiarity and customizable hospitality. From the e-concierge anticipating your every need pre-stay to the bellman greeting you with a warm welcome after a day seeing the sites, you could almost believe that you're returning to your own apartment, not a boutique hotel. Perfect for families, the pomp and formality of the "grand hotel" is replaced with friendly, no-fuss service and generous common spaces for all visitors.
This is not to say that the Affinia 50 Hotel lacks in sophistication. Step off bustling 50th Street into the lobby to the soothing trickle of a two-story wall-side waterfall, and before long you'll find yourself on the expansive second (or "Club") floor, settling into the "Den" to read your complimentary New York Times or USA Today. Floor-to-ceiling contemporary paintings frame the black granite fireplace, cherry-red chairs offer repose and dark wood bookshelves are full of reading options.
Business travelers are also fully catered to. Besides Affinia 50's location in the middle of the business district, rooms are equipped with executive workstations, and guests have access to an in-house business center and high-speed internet access. Need to blow off some steam from a long workday? Have a brisk workout in the 2nd floor fitness room, or better yet, book an in-room "SPAffinia" massage.
Did you know?
The Affinia name and "tippin' hat" branding are thanks to Benjamin J. "Bud" Denihan, Sr., the founder of the hotel collection. Bud often wore a fedora and was known to greet friends and strangers alike with a friendly tip of his hat.
The hotel chain hired a CCO, or "Chief Comfort Officer," to handpick and train the staff in support of its "TLC" movement, ensuring the highest level of comfort for guests.
Its central location makes Affinia 50 ideal for tourists and Midtown-centered business travelers. But it's families that are made to feel especially at home: Suites feature sleeper couches and kitchenettes, and concierge-tailored "fun for family" kits are available with board games. The hotel will even provide rubber duckies for bath time.
