About Conrad New York
Situated on the edge of the World Financial Center, this glass-bedecked tower landed a spot on Travel + Leisure Magazine's "It List: The Best New Hotels of 2012" soon after it opened. And sure enough, the Conrad delivers on the hype.
The Hilton-owned Conrad Group chose the Financial District for their first U.S. outpost, which makes it a spectacular vantage point for gazing at the southern tip of Hudson River, right before it empties into New York Harbor. The 463-room hotel is right next to a Regal Cinemas and Shake Shack, the beloved purveyor of burgers and malted shakes, and within walking distance of the 9/11 Memorial, the Battery Park City waterfront, the see-and-be-seen restaurants of Tribeca, as well as – with a little more effort – Wall Street, City Hall Park and beyond.
A series of oversized steel tubes by Venezuelan architect Monica Ponce de Leon dangle from the ceiling of the Conrad New York's lobby, emphasizing the enormity of its sunlit 15-story atrium, which also features Sol LeWitt's stunning 13-story "Loopy Doopy Blue and Purple 1999" painting. On the ground floor, the Mediterranean-inspired Atrio restaurant dishes up ricotta hotcakes, stone-fired sausage pizza, and shared plates of charcuterie and cheese. Upstairs, the suites (and they're all suites) are among the largest in Manhattan and come equipped with details like marble showers or tubs and living rooms with magazines like Travel + Leisure spread out on the coffee table. But arguably the best part of the experience is looking out at the Hudson River from your bedside window or from one of the white-and-wood banquettes that line the sleek 16th-floor rooftop bar.
Did you know?
There are about 2,000 works of art, by luminaries such as Julian Schnabel and Ellsworth Kelly, scattered throughout the hotel.
Thanks to its location in the Financial District, the Conrad New York is perfect for business travelers who don't want to travel far to appointments and demand conveniences like high-speed Wi-Fi, 30,000 sq. ft. of meeting space (catered by Danny Meyer's Union Square Events no less), a barber shop/salon and dry cleaning services. Out-of-towners who want a modern, seamless stay in this neighborhood will also be happy here. Although the vibe is hushed and there are often suit-and-tie types mingling about, the hotel also works for small families (there are connecting suites and a children's menu at the restaurant).
