About Dream Downtown Hotel
Located in one of Manhattan’s hippest zip codes, Dream Downtown offers a self-contained, full-service escape that attracts celebrity guests and beautiful people (it recently hosted People’s Sexiest Man Alive party). An oasis of luxe urban cool, the expansive teak-paneled lobby is animated with modern art and lined with ottomans and settees arranged in conversation nooks. Initially designed by architect Albert C. Ledner for the Maritime Union in 1966, the hotel’s redesign was led by architect Frank Fusaro, who preserved the nautical windows in many of the rooms.
The Dream offers its own boutique, Safira, stocked with fashions from upstart designer labels, the exclusive Electric Room nightclub (Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Zoe and Ryan Lochte have partied there) and “The Beach” rooftop deck, complete with imported sand and a 50-foot glass-bottomed pool with views of the lobby. Add to that the hotel’s in-house steakhouse and PHD penthouse lounge, and some guests may find there’s no reason to leave the Dream at all.
But, of course, the Dream Downtown’s environs are part of the experience. Between Chelsea and the Meatpacking District, the area is teeming with nightlife, shopping and dining options. Chelsea Market down the street offers dozens of restaurants, bakeries and gift shops. And the hotel is steps away from the Atlantic Theatre Company, which counts Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen and Oscar nominee William H. Macy among its venerable ensemble. Mary Ann’s Mexican restaurant, a New York institution, is also less than a block away.
Celebrity cred and fashionable location aside, Dream Downtown’s biggest draws are the rooms and amenities. Designed to optimize natural light, the hotel’s 315 guest rooms follow the lobby’s modern take on Old-Hollywood style, with feather beds dressed in 350-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, Etro toiletries, Tivoli alarm clocks and recessed audio speakers in bathrooms. As their names would suggest, the King Balcony and King Pool rooms have Juliet balconies overlooking “The Beach,” while the Suite Pool features a private pool with direct access to the hotel’s sandy roof deck. Other general amenities include pet-friendly rooms, 24-hour room service, 24-hour access to the fitness center and treatment room, and free use of urban cruiser bicycles.
