About Hotel Giraffe
Hotel Giraffe, which sits on a busy corner of Park Avenue, may have a quirky name, but inside it’s the epitome of boutique elegance. The hotel is ideally located between Midtown and Downtown, in the Flatiron neighborhood. There’s a distinct advantage to this: You have access to a diversity of neighborhoods. Stroll south from the hotel, and you’ll come across Union Square, ringed by shops, and home to the year round Union Square Greenmarket and seasonal Holiday Market. Head east to explore the genteel, leafy Gramercy neighborhood; west to check out the restaurants and galleries of Chelsea; and north, through Midtown, to the Empire State Building and Grand Central Terminal. Or, relax under the shade of trees at Madison Square Park, which lies just a block away, and is presided over by the landmark Flatiron building. This is also the perfect spot to refuel over juicy burgers from the park’s justly famous Shake Shack.
The inviting, light-filled lobby, with a baby grand piano and neutral, comfortable furnishings, is representative of the European-style décor throughout the hotel. Rooms are furnished with rose-color velveteen chairs, chocolate leather headboards, black-and-white vintage photography, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and French doors that open onto balconettes. The Rooftop Garden bar is the perfect spot to enjoy cocktails under the stars (and lights of Midtown) in warmer months, while the Italian-inspired Bread & Tulips restaurant offers pizza and other Italian specialties.
But the reason that Hotel Giraffe consistently rates at the top of TripAdvisor – with thousands of beaming reviews – is its services. The guidebooks and magazines agree: Frommer’s calls the hotel “a real charmer” adding that “what really separates this hotel from so many others is its services….” The continental breakfast – fresh fruit, hot oatmeal and New York bagels slathered with cream cheese – is complimentary, as is the wine-and-cheese reception every evening (except Sun.) If you miss the reception, the lobby is always stocked with snacks, from cookies to cappuccino. The hotel offers free passes to any New York Sports Club in Manhattan; the closest one is three blocks away. Plus, the hotel has complimentary newspapers and magazines, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
