About Hotel Stanford
Affordability, a central location and a family-owned touch are the main draws at the Hotel Stanford. The hotel is a couple of blocks from Herald Square and the largest Macy’s in the world. But, more uniquely, it also sits in the middle of a lively neighborhood that reflects New York City’s diversity – Koreatown. Across the street is the stylish Gaonnuri, which opened in 2012 on the 39th floor of 1250 Broadway. The succulent Korean barbecue and spicy kimchee rival the skyline views. Other good picks include Seoul Garden, Shilla and Korea Spoon.
Hotel Stanford’s rooms are elegantly simple, with dark-wood furnishings, comfortable beds with plump duvets, and plenty of amenities, including free Wi-Fi and designer toiletries. The rooms also have safes, mini fridges and ample closet space. The suites are excellent for families or groups of friends, encompassing around 450 square feet and outfitted with a small living room and a sofa. Also a bonus is the complimentary continental breakfast, which is rare in hotels of this price range. Wake up to coffee, orange juice, muffins, pastries and bagels with cream cheese.
The hotel features the 1986 EST. Wine Bar & Lounge, a low-lit romantic bar which is also unusual for this neighborhood, where the bars are more often of the loud and rowdy karaoke variety. As one Yelp user described 1986 EST. Wine Bar & Lounge: “One of the better hidden places in K-Town.” The bar gets busiest during Happy Hour (6pm–8pm), when everything is 50 percent off. Cheers.
During the day, the lounge is open for hotel guests, offering free coffee, tea and daily newspapers.
The Hotel Stanford is ideal for visitors who want to be central – it’s just a couple of blocks from Herald Square – but also want to have enough money left over to enjoy New York City. Families and groups of friends appreciate the suites, which can comfortably fit four, as well as the free continental breakfast.
A daily complimentary breakfast is served at this small, simple café.
