About Royalton – A Morgans Original
After a recent renovation, the Royalton – A Morgans Original, once the prototypical boutique hotel, designed by Philippe Starck, has been named a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice for Trendiest Hotel. Cozy but not small, the Royalton is adorned with leather upholstery and white orchids. The glass, bronze and flames from the lobby’s floor-to-ceiling fireplace erase the artificial glow of nearby Times Square.
Royalton guests have convenience on their side: Rockefeller Center, the upscale shops of Fifth Avenue, Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, Times Square and the Theater District are within short walking distance. Central Park, the Empire State Building and the Museum of Modern Art are also nearby, as are major subway links to the rest of the city.
While aspects of the hotel register with the trendy crowd, the Royalton works to keep its cool quiet. The hotel’s facade is so understated it barely registers from the outside, and the atmosphere inside is calm. Visitors are drawn to the lobby bar, where mixologists muddle unique cocktails under amber light. Come happy hour, guests can mingle with stylish locals stopping in for a drink, or bring their beverage to guest quarters designed for comfortable indoor lounging.
Upstairs, slate and glass showers provide some of the best hotel water pressure in the city, and deluxe rooms feature optional soaking tubs and/or working fireplaces (fireplaces cannot be lit until outdoor temperature is below 45 degrees). Guests can enjoy meals downstairs at Forty Four, the Royalton’s upscale restaurant, upload room service orders from their in-room iPads to the kitchen, visit the 24-hour fitness center, order in-room spa services or relax in front of high-definition flat-screen televisions.
