About The Mansfield
With a grandness belying its relatively diminutive size, The Mansfield boutique hotel is a true classic with a distinctly “Old New York” vibe. Designed by the architect responsible for stunners like St. Patrick’s Cathedral and The New York Public Library, the hotel opened its doors in 1903. The original gentlemen’s club spirit remains, despite a 2006 overhaul updating the common spaces and 126 rooms and suites.
Situated in the heart of midtown West, this Beaux Arts stunner is smack in the middle of New York’s must-see attractions. Lush Bryant Park, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, and Times Square are mere blocks away. Business travelers will no doubt delight in The Mansfield’s proximity to the corporate headquarter-dotted 6th Avenue, and theatre buffs have a five minute walk to the best that Broadway has to offer.
Which is not to say that there isn’t plenty to do at the hotel. Walking into the lobby, with its rich mahogany woodwork and wrought iron staircase, is like walking into an old-world private club (and appropriately enough, this stretch of 44th Street is often referred to as “Club Row” with the elite Harvard Club, Yale Club, and New York Yacht Club steps away). The Club Room further underscores this atmosphere, offering a library-like selection of vintage books, parlor games, complimentary newspapers and a roaring fireplace. For a livelier space (and a chance to mingle with some locals) head to M Bar for live music four nights a week and a classic cocktail under a domed skylight.
Rooms are cozy but clean and stylish with neutral decor, pillowtop beds, hardwood floors and marble bathrooms. The Junior suites feature etched-glass French doors and sitting rooms. Modern conveniences include free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, flat-screen TVs, iHome alarm clocks, a 24-hour fitness center, a 24-hour business center and free espresso, coffee and tea service.
Did you know?
Max von Gerlach, the purported inspiration for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby, once lived at The Mansfield.
Brooklyn-based artist Denise Amses (known for her installation in the lobby of the Empire State Building) was tapped to add her mark to the hotel, which included designing the French doors in the Jennings Apartment.
Its convenient location to all must-see Manhattan attractions makes The Mansfield a great choice for visitors planning a trip around the city’s top sights. The fully-equipped, complimentary business center, free Wi-Fi and in-room work desks make the hotel ideal for business travelers, who can also count on looking sharp with complimentary shoeshine and dry cleaning service.
