  • About the Shoreham

When the 177-room Shoreham Hotel opened in 2004 after its gut renovation, Midtown took note. Located on 55th Street in Manhattan’s foremost business- and shopping-minded neighborhood, the Shoreham sits on a hotel row next to heavy hitters like the St. Regis and the Peninsula – but offers a totally different experience for about half the price. Serious shoppers will revel at the stylish Shoreham’s proximity to 5th Avenue’s posh emporiums (Gucci is on the corner; Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York are a five-minute walk away), and business travelers will find themselves surrounded by countless corporate headquarters.

That is, if you want to leave the hotel. The property itself is quietly stunning, with serene, Asian-influenced decor and a sleek, modern feel. The lobby’s stainless steel accents give way to modern, lime green furnishings. Tranquil orchids dot the common spaces. Interactive video art by renowned international artists plays on flat screens. A complimentary espresso bar beckons, and a comfortable sitting room offers a variety of free newspapers and magazines from fashion bible Women’s Wear Daily to the classic New York Times. Hungry? Grab a quick bite in the hotel’s lobby bar and restaurant – with its glass-walled “underwater” vibe and inventive international menu.

And then there are the rooms. There are 12 types: from the under-200-square-foot Superior Queen option to the gorgeous 1,000-square-foot loft penthouse with its glass-surrounded living space and heated floors. Echoing the hotel’s minimalist-chic ethos, the rooms boast soothing palettes in earth tones and feature original art. Pillow-top mattresses are covered with 300-thread-count sheets, marble and slate bathrooms feature Aveda bath products and Rainshower shower heads, and impressive views of the Manhattan skyline dazzle. Some rooms even have iJoy massage chairs, Sony Dream home theater systems, or Xbox 360 game consoles.

    Did you know?
The site of the Shoreham used to house iconic French restaurant La Caravelle, where Jackie Onassis and the ruling doyennes of New York City – the original “Ladies who Lunch” – dined regularly.
  • The Shoreham’s stylish atmosphere makes the hotel a great pick for fashion-forward visitors hoping to see the best of Fifth Avenue, and its 24-hour business center, round-the-clock fitness center, and central Midtown location mean it’s ideal for business travelers, too.
