The Westin New York Grand Central (formerly the New York Helmsley Hotel)
Located just one block from Grand Central Terminal and two blocks from the United Nations, the sleekly designed Westin New York Grand Central is close enough to Grand Central to be ultra-convenient insofar as transportation goes, but just far enough removed from the busiest parts of the city that staying there can feel like a serene getaway. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, the Westin New York Grand Central offers guests serenity, practicality and luxury in the heart of the city.
Though nobody comes to New York to sleep, the recently renovated hotel boasts 774 guest rooms and suites, each one fitted out with the Westin’s sumptuous Heavenly Beds. Even the most basic rooms measure over 300 square feet (obviously suites are larger), making them quite spacious, and many rooms on the upper floors have beautiful skyline views. All rooms come with mini-bars and a single-cup coffeemaker with Starbucks coffee.
Besides the exquisitely comfortable beds, each room is also furnished with an expansive desk, perfect for spreading out and getting work done. Guests have a choice of wired or wireless internet access for a small surcharge. The hotel also has a business center with printing and faxing capabilities.
Fitness-minded guests will want to take advantage of the "Westin Workout" program. Besides the 24-hour fitness center, Westin has partnered with New Balance so that guests can borrow gym sneakers and shorts with just a phone call. Guests can work out on the cardio and weight-training equipment, borrow a running map or watch an in-room exercise video. Once the muscles have been worked to exhaustion, move on to some pampering with the Westin's in-room spa services.
The Westin New York Grand Central was recently renovated and has updated not only their décor, but spruced up the meeting and event space – all 15,000 square feet of it. Another aspect of the renovation was making the hotel more "green": Eco-friendly materials were used in the renovation, low-flow plumbing was implemented and energy-conserving lighting is used throughout the property.
Did you know?
The French artist Paul Helleu painted the beautiful constellation ceiling mural in nearby Grand Central Terminal in 1912. Over the years the mural was obscured by tar and nicotine from tobacco smoke, but in 1998 it underwent a 12-year restoration to restore it to its former glory.
If you go down to the lower level of the Terminal – right outside the world-famous Oyster Bar – you’ll find the "whispering gallery." When you face the corner and whisper, the acoustics are such that the person standing at the opposite corner can hear you quite clearly.
Business travelers will find 12,000 square feet of meeting space, with the largest room capable of accommodating 450 people. Wi-Fi and teleconference capabilities are a given. The Westin New York Grand Central's proximity to the United Nations makes it a popular choice for international diplomatic visitors, while leisure travelers will appreciate the spacious guest rooms, sumptuous amenities and being just a few blocks from the most beautiful transit hub in the city.

Take-out options will be available and while the kitchen will close at midnight, the bar will stay open until 2:00am.
