About the Trump SoHo
The Trump SoHo, like the rest of Donald’s hotel empire, is all about luxury. This cool, downtown location, however, eschews its owner’s trademark brashness for a cool, sleek luxury befitting an area where the hip and moneyed shop, hang out and do business. The five-star Trump SoHo opened in April 2010 as a top-tier, service-driven hotel serving an international set of business and leisure travelers.
The Trump SoHo, in fact, straddles two upscale neighborhoods: SoHo and Tribeca, making it conveniently located not only to the area’s many high-end boutiques, but also a leisurely walk or quick subway ride to the nearby Financial District and 9/11 Memorial. Take note: if you plan to head down to the Wall Street area mid-week, your best bets are by foot or train or risk sitting in workday, Lower Manhattan traffic.
But guests who stay at the Trump SoHo might be awfully tempted not to leave the hotel at all. 124 of the hotel’s 391 guest rooms are suites with a separate living area and powder room, and a sliding zebrawood door separating the living space from the boudoir. Rooms start around 425 square feet, massive by Manhattan standards. And seven is the lucky number for sunning and pampering: the 7th floor is home to a seasonal terrace and swimming pool with skyline views, plus a high-end spa featuring massage, sauna, steam bath, threading, henna and the Middle Eastern hammam bathing ritual. Or, book the penthouse event space, atop the hotel’s 46 floors, and be treated to the jaw-dropping, unobstructed east-west views. All the rooms on the 20th floor or higher, in fact, are rooms with stunning vistas.
The in-room color palate is restful and elegant. Rich plum, leather headboards set off Bellino-linen swathed beds and deep-burgundy benches and Fendi Casa furniture beautifully contrast the soft-oatmeal carpeting. Luxuriate, if you wish, in the ambient light of a window-hugging bathtub. And on the off chance that there’s something else you require, call on the concierge for reservations and the like or the Trump Attache service for more premium concierge needs.
The Trump SoHo serves three primary constituencies. About 60 percent of the guests are business travelers, no-doubt attracted by the hotel’s 12,000 square feet of meeting space, a ballroom fitting 400 guests and a penthouse event space. The Trump SoHo also attracts well-heeled leisure travelers who wish to shop in high-end SoHo boutiques and unwind in nearby spas. Finally, the hotel appeals to those looking for a partial-year pied-à-terre plus rental income. In an unusual arrangement, the Trump SoHo sells rooms for individual owners to stay in 120 days per year and rent to guests for the remaining days.
