About Wellington Hotel
With its colorful marquee entrance, the Wellington Hotel is hard to miss. Located near Central Park and Columbus Circle, the historic Wellington has been welcoming guests for over a century. Today, it attracts a mixed clientele of families, international tourists and business travelers who admire its location and decor.
The Wellington Hotel’s lobby has maintained its vintage appeal, with a sparkling crystal chandelier, art deco wall mural, ornate carpet and 1930s-style seating, where guests can lounge during check-in and checkout. Visitors are more likely to relax on oversized beds with embroidered accents while watching premium channels on flat-screen televisions in their rooms, however. The room decor is soothing and sophisticated, with gold-trimmed mirrors, heavy window treatments, marble bathrooms and varying color palettes.
The Wellington Hotel is home to the acclaimed Greek restaurant Molyvos, which serves lunch, dinner and weekend brunches. Casual diners or sight-seers in search of a quick bite can visit the Park Cafe, which serves light fare from 6am to 1am.
The Wellington’s greatest asset may be its location. You can take walking tours or unguided strolls in Central Park, browse the famous shops on Fifth Avenue, or visit Columbus Circle for shopping, dining and live music at Jazz at Lincoln Center. A short walk south will deliver you to the Theater District, Times Square, Carnegie Hall, the Museum of Modern Art and hundreds of restaurants and nightlife venues, and nearby public transportation makes getting to any location as simple as choosing your destination.
Vacationers looking for a classic hotel close to Midtown but not quite in the thick of the action will love the Wellington Hotel’s proximity to placid Central Park, where families can visit the zoo and weary travelers can escape the concrete jungle for lazy afternoons with a book in the Sheep Meadow, 15 acres of lush green. The Wellington Hotel also caters to the business set, offering assistance with faxing, copying and setting up client meetings.

The newly renovated Molyvos is a New York favorite for Chef Jim Botsacos’ authentic Greek fare served with familial hospitality. The restaurant’s light, airy design is a nod to the white-washed houses and blue skies of the Aegean Sea. Eat light, dining on freshly prepared hummus, stuffed grape leaves, loukaniko (lamb and pork sausage) and spinach pie, or go big with full entrees like fresh baked Mediterranean sea bass with tomato and Kalamata olives, rolled pasta stuffed with savory braised lamb shanks and Kefalotyri-cheese sauce, or Molyvos’ signature moussaka, a casserole made with layers of potato, eggplant, pepper, ground lamb and beef and yogurt béchamel. Wine, specialty cocktails and ouzo are available.
For light eats, visit this sweet cafe to find omelets, soups, seafood, burgers, pasta dishes, sandwiches and plenty of New York–style desserts.
