More Information About Renting in New York

Your New York apartment rental search starts here. Act fast if you see something you like—the best New York rentals don’t stay on the market for long. If you are renting in New York for the first time, you may find it easiest to work with a real estate broker. You can save money if you find your apartment on your own, but you’ll need to do your homework to stand a chance at scoring the lease you want. New York rentals may require deposits equal to two months’ rent, and most landlords will not accept out-of-state checks. If you don’t have a New York bank account yet, be sure you have your funds available some other way to avoid a delay that could cost you the lease. Also be sure to have all of your paperwork together ahead of time. This may include letters of reference, proof of income like tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements and multiple forms of ID.
