The East Village is a great place to find top-rated inexpensive restaurants in New York City. A thriving Latin American population means this neighborhood is home to some of the best Mexican, Cuban, and Central and South American restaurants in New York. Dining in the East Village means good food at low prices and a great bar scene. Though gentrification has largely erased the punk scene that once dominated the East Village, you can still get a taste of punk history at The Continental, the venue that once hosted legendary shows from the likes of Iggy and the Stooges. Though it wasn't part of the original East Village punk scene, Manitoba's is a newer bar with a strong punk presence. The punk vibe is gone from most of the East Village bars, and if it's just a great happy hour you want, check out the Boxcar Lounge in Alphabet City. They've got daily two-for-one deals on nearly every drink in the house at one of the village's longest happy hours (4-6 hours, depending on the day).
