About the Central Park Sightseeing Bike Tour
Central Park may be in the middle of one of the most densely populated cities in the world, but venture within and you’ll soon forget that. Co-designers Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux landscaped Central Park in such a way that visitors would feel fully enveloped by nature, even as Manhattan loomed around its edges.
One of the best ways to explore this urban wilderness is on two wheels. The Central Park Sightseeing Bike Tour, headed by professionally licensed New York City guides, offers a lively two-hour tour of the park that encompasses both its natural and architectural landmarks, from placid lakes to historic statues. Tour highlights include the Gothic-Romanesque Belvedere Castle, and the handsome Bethesda Terrace, which overlooks the lake. Pay homage to the Beatles at the Imagine memorial in Strawberry Fields, and sniff the blooms at the Shakespeare Garden. Check out the bronze statue of Alice in Wonderland, who is surrounded by her friends, the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit. And, view the Reservoir, framed by the iconic New York City skyline.
The bike tour is extensive but not exhausting, offering plenty of time to take breathers—and photos—along the way. Plus, it caters to all skill levels, from cycle enthusiasts to those who haven’t climbed onto a bike in a while. All equipment is provided, including a map, helmet and chain lock, so all you need to bring is your camera, a bottle of water—and your stamina.
Tours leave daily at 11:00am, 1:30pm, and 4:00pm
